About Richard Allum:

Born in Peterborough, Richard Allum studied piano with Colin Molyneux before going up to read Music at Durham University where he was Senior Organ Scholar at University College. He studied piano with Barry Maleham and graduated in 2009 with one of the highest final recital marks in the department’s history. He has since been made a Licentiate of Trinity College London, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the Royal Schools of Music.

Richard was a double prize-winner at the 2005 Oundle International Festival, a Hesse Scholar at the 2006 Aldeburgh Festival, and a Finalist in the European Piano Teachers’ Association Piano Competition for three years running, winning first prize in 2008. This led to him being awarded a scholarship to study at the Birmingham International Piano Academy with John Lill and Peter Donohoe. In recent years, he has participated in master classes with Noriko Ogawa, Murray Maclachlan, Steven Osborne and Andràs Schiff, the latter for BBC Radio 3 at the Bridgewater Hall.

Much in demand as an accompanist, he enjoys a number of exciting partnerships with leading singers and instrumentalists, and is also a member of the Chichester-based Little London Trio. Recent engagements have taken him to venues in the UK, France, Italy, and Australia.

Richard combines concert work with his role as Assistant Director of Music at Westbourne House School in Chichester, West Sussex.
